after 8+ years of use without a single issue, my Atlantis started leaking when washing a full load the other day. i took off the front cover, turned it on with another full load and was able to see that the water was flowing over the top of the left side of the tub when the tub was being agitated. using this repair manual http://repair2000.com/Library/maytagatlantiswasher.pdf i was able to remove the tub top ring (see page 5-3) and could see that the seal was worn and had some indentations. it's old and looks like it needs to be replaced... my only question at this point is, is it really the seal that's causing the water to overflow the tub? it seems too simple a solution, but that's my best guess at this point. i'm gonna order this part -- WHIRLPOOL 35-2328 Seal - Tub, AP4045658 | AppliancePartsPros.com -- and try it out, but i'd love to hear back from an expert to see if this is truly the cause. btw, this youtube video was also helpful -- Washer Outer Tub Ring Seal (part #3976308) - How To Replace - YouTubethanks!

That is possible, but more likely it is that too much water is coming into the tub. This might be a problem with the water level switch, or the tube that connects it to air bell.

I ordered this Water Level Switch - Whirlpool 22002705 Switch, Pressure - AppliancePartsPros.com - and installed it, but water still comes over the side when with a load larger than MEDIUM and when the tub is being agitated. I also checked the hose that is connected to the water level switch for any kinks or holes, but it seems okay. Can you please offer any other advice as to what might be causing the problem? Thanks!

Sorry the new part didn't fix this.
This is somewhat of a mystery. I would operate the machine with the front panel off and observe how high the water is when the valves close and the machine starts to agitate. See if the water is too high, or if it is just now level or if water continues to come into the machine after it starts to agitate.

I've also checked the tube that connects to the Water Level Switch and can say that it looks fine -- no holes or blockage issues.
Do you think there is something wrong with how the tub is being agitated? I ask this because water is only coming over the side with a load larger than Medium AND it goes into the agitate cycle. It seems that the actual amount of water that is being delivered into the tub is correct. Is it possible that it is agitating more "aggressively" than it's supposed to, and that is what is splashing water over the side? Have you ever seen that happen?
Thanks again for your help!

Check to see if the inner tub is moving during agitation. It should not be.

Thanks again for your help! My first day here, see a problem maybe similar to mine. I'm getting water over the top of tub, but i see it's because my agitator comes loose and rises. When my problems first started, I couldn't pull the agitator up. I may have solved first problem, but now I can pull agitator out easily. According to a diagram, I should have had a set screw somewhere; hope it's still around the tub.
