Whirlpool Duet Steam Dryer had water in vent hose. Noticed clothes were not drying recently. Today smoke alarm went off in utility room. Turned dryer off, unplugged, burning smell inside the dryer upon opening door. Took vent hose off and it was full of water (liter or more) and wet lint all in hose. Why would there be water in the vent hose? Should I try using the dryer again with a new vent hose? Assume it has burning smell since vent hose was blocked with water and wet lint but not sure if that was the cause for the burning smell. Any help is appreciated.:)

Where the exhaust hood is located?
Does the exhaust line go under the ground?
Does the dryer hooked up to the water line?
Did it show any error code?
Gene.

There are a few things which could cause this problem. The first, and most common, is a clogged vent. Even if there is nothing wrong and your dryer works fine, the vent has to be professionally cleaned at least every other year due to a fire hazard. You have to call a pro who will do it for you using a special equipment. The second is a bad dryer water valve which did not close properly at the end of its job. The third is a bad control board. After you will take care of the vent and if the problem will still exist, run the diagnostic and the test #9 as described in the attached tech sheet. - The water valve Part number: W10044608

Thanks Gene. I will check/confirm everything as you have suggested. One additional question if it turns out to be the water valve. Can I just disconnect the water line to the dryer so I can use the dryer until I receive the part to correct the problem? Thanks again for your assistance.

Gene,
Ran the diagnostic and found error codes F25, F30 and F25.
Ran Test #9 and light water found inside on the drum. Guess it is working ok now.
For error #25 (Inlet Thermistor/High Limit Thermostat problem) removed the front toe panel and found a lot of link everywhere. How is lint getting into this area? Found burnt lint on top of the heating element box that houses the Inlet Thermistor/High Limit Thermostat. Guess this is what caused the smoke detector to go off in the utility room. Removed most of the lint and removed lint from the wires. How can I determine if the Inlet Thermistor/High Limit Thermostat has a short and needs to be replaced? The wires and connections look ok.
Also how can I clear the error codes?
Thanks again for your assistance.

There is definitely a clogged vent problem and you have to take care of it ASAP. You don't have to do any other tests for the high limit thermostat. Just replace it. The error code is more than enough. In order to clear the error codes you have to keep press and release the same button you used to activate diagnostics. Do not attempt to use the dyer until the vent cleaned. - The thermal cut-off kit (thermal fuse and high limit thermostat) Part number: 280148
