What do I have to do to get the top off?

All I can see, from the front, looking between the top and the front, is a white squarish block about 1/4 inch on each side, one on the right and one on the left about two inches in from the side. It doesn't look like it will bend at all.

The parts diagram doesn't show much.

It's giving an E9 code. Drum turns, no heat, on timed cycle; and it beeps randomly when knobs are turned or even when something is set on top of the dryer.
