I have noticed that the door on my Kenmore refrigerator was not closing tightly. This was causing the temperature to obviously rise. Upon closer inspection I noticed the door was slightly open. Pushing it closed would just cause the door to pop open slightly.
The first thing I thought was the gasket. I tried replacing the gasket, but after getting a faulty gasket which caused me to put the original back on, it seems to be closing better. When I look at the seal from the side it seems to be closed well, but not good enough. I have no idea why just putting the old gasket back would make a difference? I open the freezer and watch the gasket make contact when I close the door. I do have to use some force on the door. I'm sure nothing on the inside is blocking the door from closing.
What else should I look at replacing? It seems as if there are parts for the refrigerator door, and parts for the cabinet. It seems as if the lower bracket hinge on the cabinet has been replaced by an adjustable hinge part (Item Number: AP4510894). Then there is also the upper hing bracket for the cabinet, which is Item Number: AP3965219. Should I just replace those two pieces or would replacing the parts on the refrigerator door also be best? For the refrigerator door I'm looking at Item Number: AP2115810, Item Number: AP3160507, Item Number: AP2115808.

It would be best to call the parts representative at AppliandPartsPros. I am not sure if the kit parts can be purchased separately. Also not sure which door is causing the problem as they are both refrigerator doors but one is a freezer door and the other is a fresh food door. Unless there is slop in the upper hinges you should not have to replace them. But you may have to replace the hinge cam and the cam on the door. Usually you can see what the problem is could be a cracked cam or part of the cam is missing. If you look at the hinge you should be able to see the door actually rise and lower on the cams. In the closed position the door should be on the down sloping side of the lower hinge cam. Gravity then closes the door properly.
