I'm a poor grad student who's washing machine just started howling on the spin cycle, everything else seems to work. It doesn't start right away, just after the tub is really spinning and continues even when the belt has completely stopped turning but tub still going. I was guessing the bearing has gone bad, part 26 on the tear down diagram, part # AP2131587. I'm pretty handy but have never messed with a washer before, any advice would be a great help or if this sounds like a pro only job please let me know that too.
Thanks in advance.

That sounds like a good diagnosis and this is a job you can do, with a little patience and the service manual.

If you will supply the patience, we will supply the service manual.

Here it is

Good luck, let us know if you need any more info.
