Whirlpool dryer drum stopped turning and drying temp is very hot

Whirlpool dryer was sometimes taking way to long too dry. Now the drum has quit turning and the dryer got very hot. I read on one of your posts that this might be the result of a thermal fuse needing replacing. Would that be the problem or would it be something else?

A model number may help others help you. Model Number LocatorIt may be a blown thermal fuse but you also have another problem because the heater should not be able to come on when the motor is stopped. Could also be that you have a broken belt but again the dryer should not get overly hot. |

Sorry I letft a letter out of the thread when posting . Model number for Whirlpool Dryer should be LER4634DQO for my thread about drum quit turning but heat was still hot. I am new to these posts and sturggling a little bit, please bear with me.

Here are your parts Replacement parts for Whirlpool LER4634DQ0 DRYERS | AppliancePartsPros.comSee the attachment for the wiring diagram. As you can see in the wiring diagram (right had side) there is a centrifugal switch on the motor that disconnects the heater when the motor is stopped. Is the motor running? If you put the unit mid cycle timed dry and shut the door does the heater come on? Any additional info on the unit's current symptoms would be helpful. |

Yes the motor is running . I put it in midcycle timed dryiing and motor runs, drum doesnt tumble and dryer gets hot very quickly. OK then either the belt is broken or it has come off the motor's pulley..
Check the belt.
If you click on the belt's picture (Item 56 in Section 2) a new page will open with more info, a Q&A section and a video which you may find useful.
Also try rotating the drum in the correct direction. It should turn fairly easily.If it is hard to turn then you will have to find out why.
Check the rear support rollers, the front support and the drum seals.
Also check that something has not got jammed between the drum and the frame. Bra wises are famous for this.
That it gets overly hot is a bit of a concern and may indicate that you have 2 problems. The blower wheel is threaded onto the motor's shaft so if the motor is running there should be good air flow, Could it be that it was hot in the past but you did not notice it until the drum stopped.
If yes, then it may just be a dirty vent system. |

The belt is broken. I found the info you referred to and removed belt and ordered a ne one. Don't reallyknow if it was hot before. I thought it got too hot just because I have never had the dry on such a short time ass when I was checking it so IF reallydont know how hot it ususally getes in a few minutes. I will recheck the heat when I get the belt replaced. The drum does turn easily by hand so no problem there. I assume you are talking about the vent that is the semi rigid vent from dryer to outside? I will recheck that. My dryer is in the baseent so the fvent has to go straight up about 7 ft and then goe to the outside. I never see much lint on the outside. Is there a better safer way to vent from the basment. I have seen something in magazines where a basement could be vented into a container that has water in it and you empty it as needed? Im not sure about it but just wondered if you had heard of that or seen it? Thank you for all your help and concern. If there are any more safety tips I need to know regarding safety with my dryer I would apprecoite it if you passed them on. Thanks again. Have never heard about this but I do not think it is a good idea as you are adding a lot of humidity to the house.
The only improvement you could make to your vent system is to upgrade it to metal ducting. This has a smoother interior so gives better air flow. |

Thank you, I will check into the metal ducting. i appreciate your hellp. Hopefully when I will get my belt in a couple of days and my dryer will be good to go.
