The lower heating element is not warming up.

a) element is ok - I swapped it with a known good element and it didn't help. The one I took out and put into the other oven worked fine in the other oven...so the element is NOT the problem.

b) no voltage to electrodes when oven is on bak

c) upper element warms fine - electricity is definately on.

d) no error codes on display

Is there an internal breaker/fuse that might have blown?

If the Broil element still heats up then the problem is a bad bake relay on the control board. Unfortunately this part has been discontinued but there is a chance to get your old part refurbished. The part number for the control board is 48675.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for Thermador RDSS30 S/N 9707 & UP | AppliancePartsPros.com

The circuit diagrams are pretty unreadable...can you send me higher resolution ones? You can mail them to me at light at commonsensemedical dot com ... can you tell me which is the relay that needs to be replaced on the control board? I suppose I could trace the wiring from the heating element... a diagram or picture would be better. Many thanks.

The best way is to remove the old control board and check it out. Unfortunately I don't have better diagrams.

Gene,

I replace the controller board - unfortunately when the power is applied, the convection fan starts up and won't turn off when I hit cancel.

Could I have mess up attaching the wiring? My bake and broil heating elements are working fine and the controller board seems to be working fine...it's just that the convection fan is always on. Is there a way I can just disconnect the convection fan as we never use it.

Many thanks.

- Bob

Hi Bob,

In order to disconnect the convection motor you have to pull the range out of the wall and remove the wires from the motor. Don't forget to insulate the disconnected wires.

Gene,

Doesn't the convection fan get it's power from the controller board? Can't I just disconnect one of the leads to the controller board to keep the convect fan from going on?

It sure would be easier than pulling the whole unit away from the wall. (remember, it is connected to venting that goes into the floor....ugh).

As an aside... can you recommend any replacements for the RDDS30 unit that would have a down-draft vent that vents down thru the floor? (this Thermador unit is horrible...it's only 12 years old too)

You can do it if you know which wire to disconnect. Also the second wire to the motor is coming from the door switch.

I don't know much about new appliances. You can try to Google it.
