how can I get to the wiring end (where it plugs in) to replace the lid switch? :eek:

We need a model number to know for sure but I am assuming it is a Kenmore washer made by Whirlpool and it is direct drive. If I am correct this page will help you remove the case Whirlpool Washer Disassembly Guide


Once the case is removed you can access the lid switch.
