Hi, I have 2 problems with this fairly new looking fridge that I bought with my house 2 years ago. First, the water dispenser does not work (ice is fine). I have replaced the water filter already and the water line is fine. Second, and the most serious problem I have is a loud rattling sound that started coming out of this thing a few days ago. The fridge seems to work fine but the noise is getting very bothersome. I took the back off and things seem to look fine. I opened the right door and the noise seems to be coming from the bottom of the unit and is very loud. Can you offer some suggestions? IS the compressor shot? Or may be a fan? or a blower? Please help.

You might have a broken suspension spring in the compressor. To fix, I pull the compressor mounting clips and tilt the compressor till the rattling noise stops, sometimes, on a GE, you have to loosen the back frame to facilitate this.

My ice then water dispenser then entire unit quit working except for the lights. I think it's a faulty expensive unit and GE needs to take action because from the forums I've read this is a common occurrence on these units.
