I've been having a problem with insufficient cooling (in both freezer and refrigerator), as well as ice build-up inside the freezer.

I recently replaced the defrost controller and the cooling seems better, but I'm still seeing an excessive buildup of a layer of ice and icicles (more than frost) inside the freezer, especially in the upper part of the freezer around the icemaker.

I put a temp logger on the top shelf of the freezer door (near the icemaker) and it seems to suggest the adaptive defrost is working, but also extended periods of warmer temperatures. There's a picture of the log at

As you can see, although the temp never gets much above 30F, I figure this might be normal, given that I'm measuring up near the top of the freezer, not right next to the evap coil. Does that seem correct?

I'm suspecting the problem may be that the freezer door is leaking air. I checked the icemaker damper door and it seems to be sealing. I ran a piece of paper around the freezer door gasket and did not notice any obvious gaps.

I do notice that the freezer door does not want to "stick" closed very hard, and that closing the refrig door sometimes pops the freezer door slightly ajar. I also noticed that the two side-by-side doors are not perfectly aligned with each other (the freezer door is about 3/16" higher than the refrig door where they meet).

Does this look like an air leak in the freezer door? If so, what's the best way to improve the seal? A new gasket? (the existing one looks fine) Aligning the door somehow?
