I have a Goodman ckl49-1 condenser that has a fan issue. My central air currently won't cool. The fan on my condenser won't spin automatically. In order for the fan to spin, I'd have to jump start it with a stick. Once the cycle is over, I'd have to jump start it again in order to work.

The condenser itself seems to operate just fine base on the humming noise it makes and hot temperature. I also physically inspected the capacitor and didn't notice any bulging. Although, I didn't probe it with a multi-meter. The coils are dirty, which I plan on cleaning.

What could be causing this? Bad capasitor? Bad fan motor? Dirty Coils? I would appreciate any suggestion as to what's causing the fan not to continually work, and how to address that issue.

Thanks,

The condenser fan motor start windings are bad caused by a dirty condenser. When it is as hot as it has been here in Kansas, we tell customers to change your furnace filters AT LEAST MONTHLY & wash/rinse off your condenser AT LEAST MONTHLY.
So...you'll need a condenser fan motor & ALWAYS when you change a motor use a new capacitor that the motor calls for...Please do't forget to disconnect the power  ...just turning down the thermostat WILL NOT disconnect power do it at the unit disconnect or at your breaker panel.
