Our washer won't spin and drain. It just goes to the end of the wash cycle with a tub full of water.
However, after it completes the wash cycle without spinning and the tub left full, after an hour or so, I am able to get it to spin and drain by restarting a spin cycle. However, after successfully draining, if I start a brand new cycle, the cycle ends again with the tub full of water.
It's a top loading Maytag, model number SAV4655EWW that I purchased in July of 2005, so I'm not too happy right now as I heard these were very dependable.
Based on the troubleshooting guide, the problem is not the power or the lid switch, and it doesn't seem to be the drain pump, as it does drain as explained above.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I sympathize with you, you should expect better performance from this machine. Unfortunately, this has been the story on Maytag for a pretty long time. Intermittent problems are difficults. In your case it sounds like your motor switch or your motor is failing. Since the machine operates ok, the motor/motor switch becomes the prime suspect. Here is the service manual. http://www.servicematters.com/m...ary/docs/RS3100007R0.pdfbut it is pretty light on how to check the motor. Good luck.

Mine would not drain after the wash cycle. A few days earlier I had turned up the temp on my hot water heater from 120 degrees F to about 135. The only suggestion from the maytag troubleshooting manual was "too much sudsing" can cause a no drain issue. I found the installation instructions online at the Maytag site and it said to set the hot water heater at 120. The hot water was actually creating more suds. I turned back the hot water heater to 120 and reduced the soap amount greatly. After about 2 loads of still of manually draining, all is well and running normal.
