We have a GE Profile refrigerator model number: PSC23PSSASS. We have had it for about 6 ½ years and now it is making a fast clicking sound every 2-5mins. The refrigerator and freezer are still working properly as there are no abnormal temperature fluctuations. I have tried to do some research on line regarding the clicking noise and most information that I have found points to a broken start relay attached to the compressor. I have been searching for that particular part for my refrigerator and it appears that the only part listed is called the “Cover Relay (emb)” and that part appears to have been discontinued. Does this mean that the manufacturer is forcing people with the refrigerator to purchase a whole new compressor? Am I looking at the wrong part? Is my problem even related to the start relay/compressor?

Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Pull the cover off the motherboard in the back, if clicking comes from the board, replace it AP3957581

Stop the presses...unfortunately I spoke to soon. Replacing the mother board only worked for about 12 hours as the clicking sound has returned. One thing I left off the original post is that the clicking sound is also made when freezer door or the refrigerator door is opened. When the freezer door is opened the clicking sound is a deeper clicking sound but when the refrigerator door is opened the clicking sound is not as deep. Also, the refrigerator still makes the clicking sound every 5 minutes or so even if the doors are not opened.

Do you have any other suggestions?

I would replace the board, it may have been a returned item if the original factory packing tape was missing.
