I have a Maytag MDE7400AYW (serial 12708424ax... I'm told the serial number is important to determine which one you have..) and the timer rotary knob went out. I tried to pull it out but it appears the only way to get it out is to break it. Is there a trick to removing it?

I was having the same problem until I figured out that you can remove the front part of the knob by gently prying the silver/gray cover away from the rubber ring part of the knob. Once you remove the front part the rest of the knob can be removed.

Hope this helps!
