Hi,

I have a maytag washer that sounds like a race car on high idle when the washer goes into spin cycle.

I've taken the belt off, belt is fine. Tub pulley seems to work fine -spins both ways without noise. Water pump spins freely with no noise. Transmission spins nicely, has a "ticking" noise, but I don't think that the tic would be multiplied enough to make the loud noise we are hearing. I'm about to run it with the front cover off to see if I can isolate the noise further.....

New symptom, however I think unrelated. I found out that it stayed on spin cycle way too long the other day, was shut off manually. Earlier today was on gentle cycle and it stopped mid-cycle and was just "ticking" you could hear the timer ticking but nothing was happening. She moved the dial manually to another spot and it started up again.

Thanks in advance for the help,
I'm off to get a drain pipe (I broke it pulling the washer out) and then I will try to isolate the noise......

Thanks again,
-Jesse

okay,

it really sounds like a bearing now, coming primarily from the tub transmission stack. What is my best course of action?

I have the agitator out, and the 4 bolts out, but am having a hard time without a spanner wrench. Any idea where to get one?
