HELP, maytag washer loud noise no spin/rinse???

Came in the door from work, long day...:mad: Then my washer started making a horrible noise, like a loud whining or grinding, like something was seriously wrong. I asked my gf if it had been doing that the whole time she was washing a load. She said it had just started when I walked in. The clothes also had what looked like tiny shards/shreds of white plastic on them after we took them out...:mad: Please help. Any info would be great before i tear this thing apart.

84 views and not one reply??? this noise happened during the rinse/spin cycle, forgot to mention that part in my original post... Our laundry is starting to pile up, and i need to fix our washer. We do not want to go to the laundry mat again.

No advice still???? almost 130 views???? i guess im gonna tear it apart myself and find the broken part and remove it and order a new one.

running a load i noticed it is only making the noise when i pull the knob to start or stop the cycle, and only makes a slight noise when it changes cycles. thanks for all the help...great forum...:D better off trying to figure this shit out myself.
