The first thing I would check is the safety thermostat (#33 on the cabinet/drum break down diagram).

Replace if it's open.

Also check the vent hose, the venting in the walls, the blower wheel and the air ducts inside the dryer for clogs. Your dryer definitely was overheated.

- The part number for the safety thermostat is AP2152884

Here are the break down diagrams for the Frigidaire dryer Model FSG748GFS1

Hi Guys,

I don't know if you will ever read this note but I registered to the forum just to thank you for an excellent and very helpful Q & A thread. I have an identical problem with my Frigidaire gas dryer of the same model - FSG748GFS1. I was perplexed because there was some continuity in the igniter and the sensors were fine. The gas firing was intermittent for the last month but had now stopped heating completely.

Luckily I read that John had noticed the igniter glowing. I turned off the lights and Voila - it lit up. I will replace the coils now as they are the very likely culprit. It is a good thing I took the whole dryer apart. It is 11-12 years old now. It was loaded up with lint from my 2 long haired golden retrievers and the drum bearing joint needed some grease.

I am especially glad that I read your forum thread to the very end! If I had not done so, I would likely have ordered an igniter (thinking it was weak).

Thanks, Jeff
