I have had this GE washing machine for 2 years with no issues until now. The cold/hot water connections via tubing are fine. When I turn the knob and pull to start the load, water does not come out at all. Instead the machine starts to agitate even though there is no water at all. (Update: Now the machine does not even agitate) Also, if I turn the knob ahead to the spin cycle, the washing machine does nothing. I'm assuming this is related to the water issue but I'm not sure. Can you please tell me which part do you think needs to be replaced?

I sounds like the timer is the issue, but it could be the water level pressure switch. Since that is an inexpensive part Part number: AP4358796
I would start with that, and if that does not fix things try replacing the timer unit.
