Our Whirlpool refrigerator/freezer is not cooling. Over the last three days it has worked intermittently but now has quit cooling completely. There is air flowing in both compartments but it's not really cold. The compressor is warm to the touch and it makes a humming noise about every two minutes that lasts about 15 seconds. The condenser fan is running constantly. I'm not sure what to do with it.

Hi.

You need to replace the starting components. Before doing that check the compressor's three prong for continuity between them and to the "ground". If there is continuity and compressor is not grounded - replace

The starting components Part number: W10189190
Part number: W10189190

The part probably looks different from the old one. The two female contacts are for the run capacitor (use the old one) and two male for the 120V and neutral.
Cool down compressor before turning the fridge on, clean the condenser.

Good luck. Post the results.

Simon.

I bought the part as recommended but after receiving it and reading up on how the wiring needed to be modified to make it work, I just wasn't up to monkeying around with it. I did end up finding the original replacement part and got that installed. So far the fridge has been running properly. My wife is still a bit leery of stocking it up with food again, but she says if things are still going good by this weekend she'll relent and agree that it's fixed.

Thanks for your help in troubleshooting the problem.
