I started a load of dishes and the machine stopped filling. I opened the door and closed it. I then pushed the cancel/drain button and it wouldn't drain, it would just throw water down from above. I waited a few hours thinking it had to rest. Pushed the start and nothing:mad:

I just had a similar issue and found a burn on the control board. My dishwasher is the same age and you probably need to replace the control board. Evidently parts go out on the board around this time.

Another place to look aside from the control board is to check the fuse. Our 5.5 year old Whirlpool Gold GU1500 appears to have blown the fuse and spared the control board. If the board looks to be good, use a multimeter with continuity testing to check the fuse.

Of course, none of this covers what caused board or fuse to burn out. Is it age or something else? Ideas?
