I installed the two thermostat/switches contained in the thermal cut-off kit #279816 to address a bad thermostat. I made sure there was free air flow with no blockage etc. So everything was fine for several loads then no heat again. Now the newly installed thermostat (the one with 2 wires at the top of the heating element housing) is testing bad (no continuity) again. When I went to check the hi limit switch (at the bottom of the heating element) I found the orange wire, which had to be adapted using the male/female connector included in the kit, was pretty loose. It was still in contact with the blade connector but the wire could easily pull free of the crimp. The switch itself checks out fine @ 0.00 ohms. My question is: could the loose contact have created an overheating condition or other malfunction that led to the thermostat failing?

Hi.
Most likely not.It could damage the thermostat where it's mounted on. There still is the air blockage somewhere in the exhaust system. You need to replace the hole thermal cut-off kit again.
