My Whirlpool Clothes Dryer will shut off on Heat after a few minutes. The timer will continue to run. This is in the permanent press mode, it will run in "tumble press" dry no heat. Will also run in the "fluff air" with no problem. The heat does come on but shuts off as mentioned.

Thoughts?

The heating element normally should cycle on and off to maintain proper temperature. Does it do it?

Make sure the dryer inside is clean and the dryers vent line is not blocked or kinked.

Does not cycle on/off just merely shuts off. Just after a few minutes. Almost like an overheat issue like a hair dryer if you get it too close to something. I will take apart this weekend and make sure everything is clean.

Has been a great dryer for all these years, so would hate to get rid of if it is something relatively inexpensive.

Clean the dryer and vents and give it a try. Post the results.

OOps. Forgot to reply in a timely fashion. It was exactly as you said Gene. I thought (first mistake) by just looking at vent hose and cleaning that I had cleaned. Then I took back of dryer off cleaned all around did not really notice anything to bad, then when I took apart the vent hard parts from lint filter down to the blower did I discover it was packed with lint which was causing overheating and shutting it down.

So lesson learned do not judge just by appearance need to take apart and really inspect especially internally to clean everything out.

Thank you very much for your input and nailing this problem right on the head.

You are welcome. I'm glad it's up and running.
