Dryer has an unbearable squeaking sound while running. Also shakes. Problem goes away from time to time but has gotten worse and does not subside at all anymore. Does this sound like a major problem or something simple?

This does not sound like a major problem. The rear bearing on these macines fail quite often, and it is an easy repair, just takes a little time and patience. Inside the door frame on the top are some screws which hold the top on. Take them out and take off the top. You can then take off the front by taking out two screws that hold it on. Be careful with the door switch wiring, if you take it off be sue and mark which wires go where. Release the belt, going in from the service panel in the back. Now the drum will come out and you will probably see the problem in the worn out bearings. Here is the part kit Part number: AP2619300
and if you need parts which are not there, just click on your model number and go to the appropriate exploded diagram of the drum. Replace the parts, clean out the lint, particularly in the blower area, put it back together and there you go.
