Hi..

I have a Kenmore electric dryer, series 70 that will not start. When you push the start button it will make a humming sound. Could it be the push button switch is bad. I opened the the back cover, switch no. is 3395382. Before I order the part I want to make sure the part is bad. How do I check the switch for continuity, if that is the problem. Another problem is how do I take the switch out. It is not accessible easily. Do I need a special tool for this?

I am sorry but you are under the misconception that the Forum is staffed by APP employees. We are volunteers and are not in any way associated with APP or any other parts supplies. So you are going to have to take care of your order, if you make one, yourself. You can get all the info you need by calling the APP number.

As far as your problem is concerned, the probable cause is your motor, but you can check the push to start switch this way. Unplug the dryer, take off the console and tape the two leads on the switch together. Plug in the dryer, and if it starts, replace the switch. Do not operate the dryer this way, immediately unplug it.

To remove the switch take off the knob and simply pry up the leg and twist it.


If the machine does not start the likely problem is your motor.

What were the results of the testing of the push to start switch? I assume that the dryer did not start. You can test the motor this way.

With a friend, and with the door open push in the door switch and have the friend push the push-to-start switch. Use your other hand to start the drum turning.

If the dryer starts, the motor is bad.
