i have an insinkerator model no. 5-81.lately when it is turned off it stops abruptly instead of a nice slow stop. now it is jamming. could there be something caught slowing things down. would some drain cleaner dissolve anything that may be caught, or is this thing on its last legs. its only 3 yrs old

Hi.

Unplug the disposer and check if you can see anything foreign inside. Small piece of glass or something similar.
If there is nothing inside, then most likely time for a new disposer. Check if it's still under the warranty.
