Our dryer will not heat. It started with overheating; clothes would not cool down even though the dryer went through the cool down cycle; dryer does stop at the end of the cycle. Now the dryer will not heat up even though it runs. My husband cannot find his reader so trying to narrow it down a bit. We have already tried our circuit breaker. It wasn't this. Thanks!

Ok, here is the educated guess.
Your dryer overheated because there was an obstruction in the venting, either inside the dryer or in the vent pipe to the outside.
This caused one of the safety devices in your dryer, a thermal fuse or thermostat to fail. These fail and shut down your dryer's heater when there is an excess of heat to prevent your house from burning down. This is a good thing.
Tell you husband to find his meter, or go out and buy a new one, or borrow one from a neighbor. Check the thermal fuses and thermostats for continuity, along with the power to the connection block and the resistance of the heating coil. This will likely find your problem, it is most likely the thermal fuse.
Before he puts everything back together tell him to clean out the venting system, including the blower by taking off the blower cover (and make sure the blower is working correctly) and clean out the vent pipe to the outside.
That'll do it.
