About half of the time (so far) the cycle hangs and won't continue to the rinse cycle. The sump is empty and the detergent cup is open but has most of the detergent still in the open cup. Temp boost is on and heated dry is disabled. It seems to me that is could be a water level sensor (?) or the timer switch or something else. I don't have a manual and don't understand well the sequence of events of DW function. I will appreciate your help.

Since it had to be the timer switch, and having nothing to lose, I disconnected the power and cleaned the switch contacts and ensured the wiring connections were tight. (I was an electronics tech in the Navy and have extensive experience with electrical devices.) I also made sure nothing was binding the motor that drives the switch. That solved my problem. It's not something I recommend unless you have experience with electrical devices.

Unfortunately, the alternative of having it repaired will be expensive. Mine is almost 20 years old, so I was looking at replacement if I couldn't get it going. I could find the front panel - very expensive, but not the switch assembly.

It almost sounds like something is "old & tired" and it doesn't have the current to move the switch and maybe pull a drain/fill solenoid, but I'm just guessing - I don't have schematics or wiring/timing diagrams. But if you manually advance the timer switch and it finishes the cycle OK, then other than a motor that is wearing out on the switch, it should be OK.
