I have a Hotpoint gas oven and I cannot get the igniter to glow on the oven. When the oven stopped working I bought two new igniters one for broiler and one for the oven. I hooked them both up but the one on the oven does not glow when I turn on the oven. The broiler works great and since it did I hooked the oven igniter up to the broiler and it worked just fine so I know both are good. When I turn on the oven I hear a relay click and I am getting power to the igniter. I know I should not have done this for obvious safety reasons but I hooked the wire end the plugs into the gas safety switch into the top connector (the one for the broiler) and the igniter glowed but when plugged into the correct connector it does not glow. Does this mean that the oven part of my safety switch has gone bad or is there something else I can check? It looks like the safety valve comes apart is there anything that can be repaired within it? I know to buy a new oven safety valve is around $230 and that is more than I care to spend on this oven. Any suggestions or help would be great.

Hi. By running a simple continuity test you will now for sure if the safety valve is bad. Using the multimeter, remove one lead from the valve and check continuity. If it's open - bad valve. Do not attempt to open the valve - it's not serviceable. The safety gas valve Part number: WB19K14
