What causes the little plastic thermal fuse to blow? I thought that the thermal cutoff, the one on top of the element housing was for temperatures exceeding the amount it's built for that's why the element goes off, but the other fuse renders the entire machine dead, why is my question!! aany help would be appreciated

Both thermal fuse and high limit thermostat are safety devices. If high limit thermostat fails then the thermal fuse will shut the dryer off. Also the thermal fuse is located on the bower housing and blows usually when there is a clogged vent. Whirlpool model list. Gene.
