My washer currently will not wash. It fills with water then sits for a few minutes with the wash or wash and sense lights on, then eventually just drains. Same thing with the rinse cycle. If I open it during the wash cycle I can tell the heating element is hot and active.

This has happened sporadically over the years. I would open my washer to find the dishes still dirty and the detergent still smeared on the door. I had always assumed it was just overloaded and something was in the way of one of the spray arms. It generally worked the second time after taking a few things out. Not anymore.

After reading some other posts, I removed the drain screens and cleaned all the gunk out, thinking it was a water flow problem. That didn't seem to have any effect.

I'm starting to think that whatever pump sends the water up to the sprayer arms may be faulty. Is that a separate pump from the drain pump? Anyone able to help?

Additional info: It currently seems to run through this fill-wait-drain cycle about three times before giving up and shutting down.
