I'm thinking of getting a top load Whirlpool washer that has electronic controls and no agitator, but I'm wondering about whether there are lots of problems associated with the electronics. If power surges are the major problem, is the risk always there or just when the washer is in use?

The other option I'm considering if the electronics are impractical, is a Speed Queen for home use, if I can locate one.

Thanks.

They have had a lot of problems with the Calypso and Cabriol washers and they say the really don't get heavy soil out of the clothes.
I would buy the Whirlpool direct drive washer. If you like front loaders, I would buy the Frigidaire with mechanical timer.
