Guys,

Maytag MAV8260AWQ, top load washer. The washer will fill but will not drain or spin. Motor would not spin-up under power but would turn when done by hand. Transmission and pump pulleys would turn by hand as well.

Removed the drive belt and the motor spun up quickly. With belt removed, pump pulley turns with no resistance or noise. Transmission pulley turns clockwise freely and does not spin tub. Counterclockwise, it's more difficult to turn but the tub turns with it.

When it went south last night, there was a distinct odor (burning belt). I'm assuming there is some sort of clutch pack inside the transmission that is locked up or there is a bearing of some sort that has overheated and welded itself.

Any ideas as to what is wrong here ?? Something is definitely locking up the drive belt when it is powered up but not when I turn it by hand. Thanks for any insight you can provide.
