Crosley washer motor trips out on overload, will not start.
Started making a clicking noise a few weeks ago.
With belt removed the motor turns on okay.
Removed the pump, seems to turn okay.
Only 5 years old, made by Maytag.
Any ideas?

Make sure the transmission turns freely in both directions. Be sure to turn it multiple revolutions. Also make sure the motor slides freely on the plate it mounts on. It has to be able to loosen the belt some on initial start up. If all that checks ok I'd probably change the motor and belt.

Thanks for the reply.
Agitator turned 1/2 a turn in one direction and stops, will not turn in the other direction (manually turning it). What part of the transmission might this be?

If the transmission locks up in the agitate direction then you're going to need to replace the entire trans. If it's the spin direction, possibly just the tub bearing. Bit unusual to lock up in both. Always the possibility of clothing or other foreign object keeping it from going one way or the other.

Below is a breakdown for your machine.
