the other day 2 of the igniters for the burners on the cook top on my stove stopped working so i tore it apart and tried to clean it and now they work but only if i don't tighten the 2 screws on the burner heads down all the way. so now the igniters don't sit up high enough on the burner head to ignite the gas quickly. so what part do i need to concentrate on cleaning to get it to spark correctly. does the burner head need to be grounded to the stove somehow for the igniter to work correctly

Make sure the ceramic part of the electrode is not cracked and the electrode is screwed to the burner base properly. The burner head screws must be reasonably tight to the burner base. All parts must be clean from grease. Proper grounding is very important and provided by a tighten screws and clean surfaces.
