Hello,
Our 21 year old Kitchen Aid starting making a terrible, screeching, metal-on-metal sound recently. I thought it was the drive pulley slipping on the belt so I replaced the belt but that wasn't it.
I have checked the entire assembly. Felt liners at each end of drum are fine, guide wheels are good and in correct position.
Motor drive shaft appears to have two large bearing/collars at each end so I'm thinking it's one of them gone bad. I sprayed silicone lube into the front bearing/collar and it stopped temporarily but came back.
Any suggestions?

If spraying the lubricant stopped the noise, then it would seem that the motor is the problem. If you have gotten 21 years of service out of it, then the motor deserves retirement and the dryer deserves a new motor as a reward for faithful service.
Good luck

Good luck Yeah, no doubt, But I put the lube in the front collar, presumably a bearing, on the motor shaft that is clipped down not in the motor itself. So, do you think that collar is the culprit or the motor? Are they separable? Thanks for the help.
