Hello,

I found this forum through Googling my problem, and I've been reading the stickies. While I'm reading this I thought I'll post my problem.

Our 2 year old Kenmore fridge is not working but the freezer is perfectly fine. With some helpful posts around here I removed the back panel in the freezer. Here are some pictures of it:

So far I checked that the fan is working flawlessly and no problems with it. It took about 20 minutes to open the back panel and while I was prying it apart, obviously the freezer cooled down. Then I took pictures and noted some stuff down then closed it back up. I checked the fridge after and a little bit of cool air started to air in.

I'm also wondering where I can find a diagram of my model.

Anyone know what to do next?

Thank you for your help.

Open the fridg door and press the light switch 5 times within 6 seconds, compressor should stop, and it should go into defrost.
If compressor stops, but no defrost action, you have either a defrost thermostat, or defrost heater problem. If compressor will not stop, you probably have a bad control board.

How do I tell if the compressor stopped? I pressed it multiple times and it didn't seem like it did anything. Then I rapidly pressed it about 5 times, and it made a rumbling sound for about 4 seconds and it stopped.

Can you also tell me where I can find the diagram so I know what is what? When I put in the model number it just give me the parts list, I don't see a diagram.

Thanks.

Try the sears site" searspartsselect", will give diagrams. If the fans stopped after pushing the door switch, it went into defrost, but probably didn't defrost due to a defrost component failure like a defrost thermostat.

You mean by defrost action, the frost on the evaporator has to melt?

Great, found the schematics! So if I press the switch about 5 times, the fan blade (6) from this diagram, should stop spinning?

This is how it looks like this morning. I'm not sure when it defrosted, after I opened it last night or after this morning where I did the light switch.
