Last week our 6 year old Amana Refrigerator/bottom freezer started malfunctioning. Every few minutes it was making a high-pitched whirring noise (that's the best I can describe it). The freezer got warm but the refrigerator was still functioning. Until a day or so later when the fridge ceased functioning.
My brother-in-law read online that it could be stuck in the defrost mode (since it's a frost-free fridge) and recommended unplugging the unit over night and restarting it. That fixed the problem... for a few days.
Now the freezer is working fine but the refrigerator is completely warm.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help. Larry

May be the evaporator fan motor going sour, remove freezer back panel and check.

Thanks for your replies. It ended up being the compressor and we had to get a new refrigerator. Never again with an Amana!
