I have began to notice that when the Washer spins out it has gotten extremely loud. We thought we noticed a metallic like squeak a month ago. It was kind of off and on and it was "NOT" your normal squeak, it sounded like a metal on a metal sound. We don't notice that sound anymore.

However now when the washer spins out, it is very loud almost deafening. It can't be right. I don't know if this can be caused by a bad belt or defective pulley. Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply. The Serviceman was here over the weekend and diagnosed what we hope is the problem. It sounds like a bearing in the drum. What amazed me was is what the cost will be for repairs. The bill doesn't go to me, so I guess I shouldn't mind, but Whirpool may have been better off replacing the washer entirely.

They have or (are going to) replace the basket, outer drum, pulley, belt, and nut that secures it all. I did find a parts manual and didn't see the bearing he mentioned, but it's my understanding that it's in the drum or something. Anyway, the parts, labor, etc. may total over $900.00, wow!
