My Maytag front loading washer (model MHWE300VW00) is making a loud screeching noise when it reaches the spin cycle. I unplugged it and removed the rear panel to discover that the motor is spinning against the belt (hence the screeching noise) but the drum is not turning. My guess is that the brake is stuck. Any solutions? Thank you for any help.

Hello, Bob.
Did you try to turn the pulley manually in both directions without the belt? There is no breaks on this machine, so if the basket not turning freely that means -bad bearings.
Please post results.

Thanks for getting back with me, Simon.
I took the belt off and the pulley won't budge in either direction. So, are the bearings fairly easy to replace?

Thank you once again for your help, Simon. Unfortunately, that is very bad news for me. I moved to South America and as far as I know there is no way to get parts for it here, especially not as large as that. The part that you marked on the diagram is the plastic part that encases the metal tub, correct? Is there no other way to get to the bearings?
