Working on an Amana 22ft freezer bottom fridge.
We noticed soft ice cream and frozen veggies in the drawers so we knew something was up.
Obtained a thermometer, checked both fridge and freezer temps with control set at #4 where it had been for years. Fridge was around 40 deg and freezer was at 20 deg. turned up control to #7 (highest) checked again next morning, temps fell only a degree or so. Local appliance parts house advised cold control would fix it. Purchased and replaceed part... no change after 24 hours. Cycled defrost timer manually, checked next morning. Freezer at 0 deg and fridge down to 34. Temps didn't last, by that evening all temps back up. Started reading forums here, found a post on same model with frozen veggies in drawer. Advice was to change defrost timer and defrost thermostat as a pair. Purchased and replaced... did not fix.
Noticed when I had freezer interior back panel off, evap coils were completely frost free but old thermostat was a ball of ice. Also getting water build up on front sill under fridge door when closed.
Also.. compressor and cond fan run constantly except when defrost timer kicks them off. Cond coils always kept clean since fridge was new.
Is it time to move this unit to the garage for pop & beer?
Thanks
E.
