Recently noticed that dryer has a crackling sound when on. It still works (i.e. dries clothes) but not sure if sound is indicative of hazard (i.e. fire). Sound seems to be coming from back of dryer, but difficult to pinpoint. Dryer is 8 years old and never been serviced. Any idea what this could be?

This is very bad. It has to be taken apart, cleaned and lubricated at least every other year. Do it as soon as possible and inspect all moving parts while it is disassembled.
