what could be wrong with my whirlpool gas dryer it gets no heat and when its done with cycle it doesnt shut off it keeps going

Phyllis,
If you've selected a auto advance cycle, the dryer has to heat properly,in order for the timer to advance. So lets get the heat issue first. Make sure the gas to the dryer,has not beed turned off at the wall,accidentally. Remove the 1X1 inch square plastic cover off the front panel, and start the dryer the opening behind the square cover is used to observe the gas ignition procedure. When you start the dryer and peer through the opening, you should see an orange glow, for a few seconds, then, there should be a click noise, the glow should start to fade, and should hear and see the gas ignite and the flame start to heat.
