New to the site, I own a small business where I sometimes sell used appliances. Im mechanically inclined but am new to appliances. I have a washer that will not spin out clothes, Like a dummy instead of running it through and checking everything I immediately tore it apart thinking it was the drive coupler. Well the drive coupler seems to be fine, so I tore apart the transmission which also seems to be fine. The switch has continuity so I think that is ok, and the rod that goes up into the washer does not have any corrosion. Well now since I tore it all apart and cant test things I am thinking it must be the brake shoes, and I broke the plastic clutch band in the process, any ideas on how to look and see if the shoes are bad before I order the parts and waste more time and money? the model is LSB6400LW1 and its a whirlpool

Try replacing the clutch lining. The clutch is frequently the problem here. When you put it back together you can turn the clutch housing and see if the brakes are releasing.
Good luck with your business, be sure and check out the video library on this site. It is very good.
