My Maytag Neptune Gas Dryer has a continuous display on the control panel showing sensor dry and 63 minutes remaining. I can't turn it off or use any of the control pad keys. I've unplugged it and when I plug it back in, the display remains the same.

Finally, I broke down and bought a new control board from Appliance Pros, since that seemed to often be the problem. When I put the new control board the same thing happened, but with 50 minutes remaining instead. I checked the door switch and it seems to be functioning properly.

Thanks, Mike.

Well, I am sorry that rather expensive part did not fix it. If it is any consolation I am fairly sure that most of us would have recommended you change out the control board, so what you did was the right thing even if the result was not good.

I have not worked on the electronic version of this dryer (just worked on a mechanical one today) but looking at the wiring diagram the two things that it shows interfacing with the board are a thermistor and of course the membrane switches. I think they are your next suspects.

Here is the service manual for your dryer, but I cannot say its trouble shooting guide is any help, buyt maybe the wiring diagram will help.

Good luck, let us know if you find the problem.

Thanks for the help, but after using a multi-tester to check the door switch, thermistor and thermal fuse, which all tested out O.K., I decided to buy a new machine. I bought an Admiral (without the electronic bells and whistles) from Home Depot for $400 delivered. The thing that bothered me the most is that the Maytag is going to end up in a landfill somewhere, and it's just over 3 years old. Thanks again for your help.

Well, I am sorry that did not work out. You have experienced first hand what those of us who work on these things have experienced daily, that the microprocesser CPU's in these machines are a disaster.

Your new machine will clean your clothes just as well as a fancy front loader, and be much less likely to need repair.

I know what you mean about going into the landfill. I volunteer and fix appliances for a non-profit home store. Appliances are donated, and we test and repair as needed, and re-sell to raise money for the cause. On an annual basis we keep about 2,000+ washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges, refrigeratorfs etc from the landfill. What we cannot fix we part out. All in all, pretty satisfying work (except for the no-pay)

Good luck with your new machine.
