Maytag won't agitate or drain, will spin. Belt?

My older Maytag just quit. It started to smoke in the middle of the rinse cycle. Can't tell if it's a belt burning smell or something else. It's not electrical. It won't agitate or drain, though it seems to try. If I set it to spin, it will even with all the water in it. I'll get under it this week, but what should I look for? Belt for sure. Does it sound like the motor is good but maybe the transmission is bad? Any help in advance would be appreciated. Thanks

If you will post a model number someone may be able to help you.
In the meantime check the pump for an obstruction.

The model # is KA-806. I got inside of it today and changed the belts. Now the motor won't turn at all at any setting. It starts to, then stops. It also gets very hot. With the belts off, the motor will spin, but with some noise. I can turn the motor, trans pulley and pump by hand. Sounds like the smoke yesterday was the motor frying?

Yes, I think you diagnosis is correct and that your motor has failed.
