My electic consumption shot up 50%. The only thing I noticed is that my fridge seems to run alot. It is not ambient temp. problem, I keep my house at 76. I also noticed that veggies in my fridge are freezing. The defrost timer seems to be O.K., the damper flap is O.K. I suspect a bad temp. control is the problem. In order for the fridge to stop running, I have to turn the temp. control down to 1 or 2. Sometimes I have to turn it to Off. It behaves for a very short time, then misbehaves again. Any Ideas?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hit the head right on the nail. Change that thermostat. That controls when and how long the compressor stays on. The colder you set it the longer the compressor runs to reach that temperature you set. Sounds like yours is out of wack. Time to replace. I would also clean the condenser coils. When a compressor constantly run as you described it can cause premature failure.

Your cold control is probably ok. Check your freezer temperature, must be below 10 degrees, post results.
