I have been trying to install a new water filter on my Whirlpool side by side refrigerator and it just won't go in. I follow the instructions as indicated on the filter. I push it in as far as it will go until it stops and then I try to turn it the 1/4 turn it says to do but the darn thing will not engage. No matter how many times I try. Now I can't get the old filter back in. HELP! They say it's a snap to do. The only thing that snaps are my knuckles in trying to push the stupid thing in! YUGH!!!!!!!!

compare the new filter with the old one. If not identical, replace it.

I Am Changing My Filter Today And At The Same Time "praising" The Engineer Who Designed This Set Up On My Whirlpool Side By Side Fridge.
To Seat The Filter, I Find I Have To Remove The Plastic Grill At The Bottom Of The Refrigerator. That Gives Me Enough Room To Use Channel-lock Plyers, Getting Enough Torque To Twist The Filter Into Place. I Closed My Eyes And Twisted The Old Filter Out And Closed My Eyes To Twist The Filter In. At The Same Time I Have The Filter Cap Attached To The Filter.
The Previous Advice Of Ensuring You Have The Correct Replacement Part Item Is Also Sound.
