First, thanks in advance for taking the time to read this. We just bought this house a few months ago and it has a ~3 year old Whirlpool side by side GS6NBEXRL01 fridge. It was unplugged for ~4 months before we moved in. We vacuumed out underneath and behind it, and cleaned the inside with water, vinegar and baking soda. Everything seems functional except for the icemaker which doesn't seem uncommon.
We read that it takes ~2-3 days before it will begin making ice after being plugged in, but it's been 2 months now. My wife heard it make a few cubes one night last month but that was it. The water dispenser works fine.
So after scouring this great forum the last few days, I found some great information. This afternoon I poured water into it with a turkey baster and am awaiting the results. This unit has an infrared sensor and it is on and I see the light blinking.
Any other tips, suggestions would be of great assistance!

Gene,
Thank you very much for the response. The ice is still in there, so it's a bad icemaker then? Like I said, the infrared light flashes when it cannot see the other side, and when it can, it stays solid red (when the door is open), so the optics appear to be working.
I checked the water valve on the back of the fridge as I was going to try swapping them, but the water lines are 2 diff sizes. What is the proper method to get the water line out? I finally got the freezer/icemaker line out by prying out the "grommet" insert, not sure if that was the right way or not, but the line did have water in it, and I was able to blow right through it so it wasn't frozen.
Does the icemaker itself activate the water inlet valve to send water to the icemaker? If so, then it appears the icemaker is bad.

Ed, If the ice maker does not release ice cubes then the problem most likely is a bad ice maker. You can check if there is 120 VAC to the ice maker to make sure 100% it is the culprit. Slide the ice maker out keeping the ice maker plug in. Remove the head cover and measure the voltage between the test points "L" & "N". Make sure the test probes go in at least 1/2". If there is a proper voltage then the ice maker has to be replaced. - The ice maker Part number: AP3182733

Gene, Thanks again for spending time sharing your knowledge and experience. As I was pulling the icemaker out, I heard it activate on and off. Once I had it out and still plugged in, I measured the voltage. When it was "running/whining" L/N was around 34.5, when it wasn't, it was near 0 or fluctuating between 0 and 34.5 So it makes me think something is lose or shorted somewhere, so I tried to isolate it further. I unplugged the icemaker completely and measured the voltage in the supply plug and it was always on at 34.5ish. I then unscrewed the brown/gray module from the end, plugged in the rest of the ice maker, and was also receiving a steady 34.5ish. So it is safe to say it's the brown/gay module? Ed, If the "on-off" switch on the right side was in "on" position then the problem can be a broken wire(s) from the optic board to the plug or a bad optics. It has nothing to do with the ice maker in such situation. Gene.
