How do you test the oven thermostat? How do you open the stove cooktop to gain access to the burner and oven T'stat area?
I purchased the oven used. When I installed it, connected the nat gas line and then plugged it in, the oven ignitor comes on - on it's own and the oven burner ignites and stays on all the time. The oven thermostat knob/dail is free to rotate 360 degrees in either direction, so in effect the knob doesn't control anything.

Quote:How do you test the oven thermostat? That depends on the particular thermostat design and what you're 'testing' it for. The contacts of a simple 2-wire thermostat like used on your model can be tested for continuity to see if they're opening or not. As long as the knob is not just rotating freely on the thermostat shaft, that would be a pretty good sign it was defective and likely needs to be replaced.
