I have a Maytag washing machine (Mav6257aww) that intermittently quits on the last spin cycle. It operates correctly thru all of the other cycles until it reaches the last spin cycle. In some instances, I can manually rotate the dial, bring it back to the final spin cycle, and it will work. Does this sound like a timer issue or possibly a circuit board problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would begin by testing the lid switch. Next time it stops, try pressing down on the lid, or lifting it and letting it back down. If it restarts, that part would be suspect. The circuit board has nothing to do with the agitation or spin: It controls the water inlet valve, depending on your selected temperatures.

I have tried the lid switch and it seems to be working. Would the next step be to look at the timer?

I then replaced the lid and the machine continued with the cycle. In-between the rinse cycle and spin cycle the machine agitates and I hear air "gurgling" from the waste tube. However, when it reaches the spin cycle nothing happens. I only hear the sound of the timer. Hope this helps narrow things a bit!

Since my last post, I have emptied the machine of water, tilted it on it's back an checked the to see if the transmission, motor, and pulley move freely. All do move. I also removed the belt and rotated the transmission pulley by hand. The clutch engages and the drum will spin. I ten placed the machine back on it's base and attempted to run a mini-cycle. The machine will fill and agitate but will not spin. Any idea's on how to fix this thing?????

If this happens in all cycles, you probably need to replace the transmission. If it happens in one cycle, but you can get it to spin in another, I would suspect the motor or the timer. Remove the belt and select a spin cycle. Does the motor respond?
